Recognized by California Park and Recreation Society
For immediate release: January 30, 2020
The City of Moreno Valleyhas been selected as a 2019 California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) Award of Excellence recipient for its After School Education and Safety (ASES) program in the Creating Community category.
The City’s partnerships with after-school program provider Think Together and Moreno Valley and Val Verde unified school districts, combined with the outstanding curriculum, continual grant-seeking efforts and academic and social opportunities provided to more than 3,800 youth in Moreno Valley contributed to winning this award.
"Our close working relationships with the two school districts in Moreno Valley are especially effective," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "Each of our organizations does what it does best as we work together to provide safe, engaging learning experiences for our City's youth during that risky time between 3 and 6 p.m."
CPRS has more than 4,000 members representing the 535 local parks and recreation agencies throughout the state. Its awards are the highest recognitions a California park and recreation agency can receive.
Moreno Valley’s award is a credit to the City Council, staff, volunteers and partners who support the Moreno Valley Parks & Community Services Department.
The City will be recognized in March at the annual CPRS Conference in Long Beach.
